Alicia’s Disney Cruise Packing Essentials

The products our family actually uses, loves, and packs for nearly every Disney Cruise.

Over the years, my family has sailed Disney Cruise Line to destinations including Alaska and the Bahamas. We’ve tested a lot of packing gear along the way, and these are the products I actually use and recommend to my own clients. If something is on this list, it’s because it made our vacation easier- not because it’s trendy.

My “Never Cruise Without” Favorites

If I could only recommend a handful of products, these would be at the top of my list.

⭐ Compression Bags + Portable Vacuum

Perfect for maximizing suitcase space. These have been a lifesaver for Alaska cruises, longer sailings, and our family trips to Europe. Bringing the portable vacuum with us makes packing for the trip home just as easy.

I pack directly into this organizer before we leave home. Once we arrive at our stateroom, I simply hang it in the closet and we’re unpacked in less than two minutes.

It’s one of those products that seems simple until you use it—and then you never travel without it again.

⭐ Ride-On Kids’ Luggage

Hands down one of the best purchases we’ve ever made for family travel.

Our kids ride—or simply sit—on their suitcases through airports, cruise terminals, and long hotel hallways. They’re entertained, we’re carrying less, and everyone starts vacation in a much better mood.

Packing & Organization

These products help us pack efficiently and keep our stateroom organized throughout the cruise.

  • Packing Cubes
    • Why I pack them: They keep everyone’s clothes organized, make it easy to separate outfits by family member, and help maximize suitcase space. They’re especially helpful when you’re packing bulky sweatshirts or jackets for Alaska sailings.
  • Collapsible Storage Cubes
    • Why I pack them: They give us extra storage for souvenirs, snacks, shoes, or anything else that tends to accumulate throughout the cruise. When we’re not using them, they fold completely flat, so they take up almost no room in our luggage.
  • Compression Bags with Portable Vacuum
    • Why I pack them: Perfect for longer sailings or colder destinations like Alaska where bulky jackets take up a lot of luggage space. They also make room for souvenirs on the trip home.
  • Hanging Closet Organizer
    • Why I pack it: I pack the kids’ folded clothes on the shelves, then simply collapse it and put it in a large suitcase. Once onboard, I lift it out and hang it up inside the stateroom closet for easy unpacking. It saves the stateroom drawer space, and it makes unpacking on embarkation day incredibly quick.
  • Heavy-Duty Magnetic Hooks
    • Why I pack them: Disney Cruise Line stateroom walls are magnetic, so these create instant extra storage for backpacks, hats, lanyards, swimsuits, and jackets without taking up valuable counter space.
  • Hanging Shoe Organizer
    • Why I pack it: Cruise cabins don’t have much storage for sunscreen, toiletries, medicines, or hair accessories. This keeps all those small items organized and easy to find throughout the cruise.
  • Pop-Up Laundry Hamper (This one fits under the bed!)
    • Why I pack it: Having one place for dirty clothes keeps the stateroom tidy all week. I love that this one collapses flat for packing and slides neatly under the bed when it’s not in use.
  • AirTags
    • Why I pack them: I tuck AirTags into our checked luggage, carry-on bags, and sometimes even my kids’ backpacks for extra peace of mind. They’re an easy way to keep track of your belongings while traveling through airports, cruise terminals, and during your vacation.

Stateroom Essentials

These are the little things that make your cabin feel much more functional.

  • Heavy-Duty Magnetic Hooks
    • Why I pack them: Disney Cruise Line stateroom walls are magnetic, so these create instant extra storage for backpacks, hats, lanyards, swimsuits, and jackets without taking up valuable counter space.
  • Night Light
    • Why I pack it: Cruise staterooms get incredibly dark at night. A small motion-detector night light makes it much easier to navigate to the bathroom without waking everyone else or turning on the bright cabin lights.
  • Magnetic Dry Erase Board
    • Why I pack it: It’s a simple way to leave notes for family members, jot down daily plans, or keep track of onboard activities and reservation times throughout the cruise.
  • Pop-Up Laundry Hamper (This one fits under the bed!)
    • Why I pack it: Having one place for dirty clothes keeps the stateroom tidy all week. I love that this one collapses flat for packing and slides neatly under the bed when it’s not in use.
  • Small First Aid Kit
    • Why I pack it: It’s nice to have bandages, pain reliever, motion sickness medication, blister pads, and other basics on hand so you don’t have to search the ship or a port if someone needs something small.

Pool, Beach & Castaway Cay

Whether you’re spending the day by the pool or exploring Disney Castaway Cay or Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, these are always in our beach bag.

  • Waterproof Phone Pouch
    • Why I pack it: Great for beach days, pools, snorkeling excursions, and rainy weather. It protects your phone while still letting you take photos.
  • Large Insulated Tumbler
    • Why I pack it: Disney provides complimentary beverages at the drink stations, so having a reusable bottle makes it easy to stay hydrated around the ship without constantly grabbing disposable cups.
  • Reef-Safe Sunscreen
  • Dry Bag
    • Why I pack it: Super convenient to have in case you have wet swimwear to carry/pack so your other items stay dry/clean.
  • Water Shoes
  • Cooling Towels
  • Polarized Sunglasses

Family Travel Favorites

These products have made traveling with kids so much easier.

  • Ride-On Suitcases
    • Why I pack it: It keeps little travelers entertained in airports and cruise terminals while giving them a fun way to carry their own belongings.
  • Kid-Friendly Ear Plugs
    • Why I pack it: Disney shows onboard are AMAZING, but sometimes a bit loud for little ears.
  • Refillable Water Bottles

  • Tablet Holder
  • Travel Games like Uno, deck of cards
  • Collapsable Snack/Leftover Containers
    • Why I pack them: They’re perfect for bringing a snack back to the stateroom from Cabanas, packing treats for a port day, or storing leftovers from room service to keep in the stateroom fridge. When they’re empty, they collapse flat, so they barely take up any space in your luggage.
  • Charging Phone Case
    • Why I pack it: Between taking photos, using the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app, and spending time in port, phone batteries drain quickly. A small power bank gives me peace of mind all day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I really need magnetic hooks?

In my opinion – yes!

They’re inexpensive, take up almost no room in your suitcase, and create valuable storage space inside your stateroom. They’re one of the products I recommend most often to first-time cruisers.

Are these products only useful for Disney Cruises?

Not at all.

We use many of these for Walt Disney World vacations, Europe, Alaska, beach trips, and even weekend getaways.

How often do you update this list?

Whenever we discover a product that genuinely makes travel easier, I add it here. I don’t recommend items simply because they’re popular- I recommend products we’ve personally used or would confidently pack ourselves.
